How To Place A Bet

Attending the races is an incredibly thrilling day, and focuses mainly around placing bets on each race.

At Worcester Racecourse, there are many places you can place a bet, such as with any of the independent bookmakers around the course, at our William Hill betting shops in the main Grandstand & Centre Course, or at the various Tote outlets around the site.

To understand a little more of how to place a bet, we have put together the below steps to ensure you have the best day possible.

So how do you place a bet?

1.    First of all you will need to pick up a Race card (which are on sale from the race card stand for £3), the Racing Post or any national paper, as they contain all the information you need to select which horse you fancy.

2.    After gaining all the information you need, you need to decide how you want to bet. You can bet ‘To Win’ (where you are betting on the horse finishing first). Or ‘Each Way’ (where the horse must be ‘placed’ within the top positions for that race). Note that ‘Each Way’ will cost more as you are technically placing two bets, one that the horse wins and one that the horse places.

3.    At Worcester Racecourse there are three different ways to place a bet. This could be through the Tote, at our William Hill betting shops, or through independent bookmakers. There are plenty of stands around the course, but it is best to look around, as they offer their own odds, so you will need to shop around for the best odds on the bet you want to make.

4.    Then comes the exciting bit! Decide how much you would like to spend and pick which Tote or bookmakers you would like to bet with. Once you have paid your money, you will receive a betting slip with your horse and your return. Keep this is safe, you will hopefully need this later on! Now’s the time to take up your spot on the sidelines of the track, cheer on your horse, and cross everything that you have a winner.
